PAYLOAD;; issue 14
Thanks for joining me.
Don’t forget about the humble plain-text file.
As I’m sure many of you know, in professional Linux, services are often managed and configured with “flat” text files stored locally. In applications like Kubernetes or Terraform, even whole servers and clusters can be defined and populated virtually with specially formatted text files. These files are your friends and are here to help!
You may have already guessed that the benefits of this oft-overlooked notepad are not limited to the office. Word processing for mail messages, to-do lists, shopping lists, light web design, shell script programming, homework / schoolwork assignments, and so many more can easily be accomplished with the little text editors on all of our systems. On older systems, this lighter program can run much more quickly and efficiently than the bloated and slow office suites we are familiar with. A simple drag and drop into a cloud storage provider can provide an almost instant backup as well as team collaboration. This method allowed me to really squeeze out the maximum amount of performance from old and ailing systems during my education. When handing-in documents, a quick paste into the word processor of choice allows for any required cosmetic formatting or file-types.
